Description

A quick and delicious Bourbon Chicken Skillet recipe made with tender chicken thighs and a flavorful sauce.


Ingredients

  • lbs boneless skinless chicken thighs, cut into bite-sized pieces
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • ½ cup low-sodium soy sauce
  • ½ cup brown sugar packed
  • ¼ cup apple cider vinegar
  • 2 tablespoons bourbon or apple juice if omitting alcohol
  • 1 tablespoon hoisin sauce
  • 1 tablespoon minced garlic
  • 1 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 2 tablespoons water
  • Cooked rice
  • Sliced green onions
  • Sesame seeds

Instructions

  1. In a medium bowl, toss the chicken pieces with 1 tablespoon cornstarch and ¼ teaspoon black pepper to coat evenly.
  2. Heat vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the chicken in a single layer and cook for 5 to 7 minutes, turning occasionally, until golden and cooked through. Remove from the skillet and set aside.
  3. In a small bowl, whisk together the soy sauce, brown sugar, vinegar, bourbon, hoisin, garlic, and ginger.
  4. Add the sauce mixture to the same skillet and bring to a simmer over medium heat.
  5. In a separate small bowl, mix 1 tablespoon cornstarch with 2 tablespoons of water. Stir into the simmering sauce.
  6. Cook for 2 to 3 minutes, stirring constantly, until the sauce thickens and becomes glossy.
  7. Return cooked chicken to the skillet and stir to coat in the sauce. Cook for another 1 or 2 minutes until heated through.
  8. Serve over rice and garnish with green onions and sesame seeds, if desired. Enjoy!

Notes

  • For a non-alcoholic version, substitute bourbon with apple juice.
  • Garnish with additional sesame seeds for extra flavor.
