Description

A deliciously shiny treat that makes for a perfect dessert or party snack.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 6 to 8 medium Granny Smith apples, washed and thoroughly dried
  • 3 cups granulated sugar
  • ½ cup light corn syrup
  • 1 cup water
  • A few drops white gel food coloring for opacity
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract or clear almond extract
  • Edible pearl dust or white sparkle edible glitter
  • 6 to 8 white paper straws or wooden sticks

Instructions

  1. Wash and dry apples completely, ensuring all wax is removed to help the coating adhere. Insert sticks firmly into the center of each apple and place them on a parchment-lined tray.
  2. In a heavy saucepan, combine granulated sugar, light corn syrup, and water. Heat over medium-high heat, stirring until the mixture reaches 300°F (hard crack stage) on a candy thermometer. Remove from heat and quickly stir in white gel food coloring and vanilla or almond extract.
  3. Immediately dip each apple into the hot candy mixture, twirling to ensure an even coat. Allow excess to drip off, then place the apples back onto the parchment-lined tray.
  4. While the candy coating is still tacky, dust each apple with edible pearl dust or sparkle edible glitter to achieve a shimmering finish. Let the apples cool completely until the coating hardens before handling.

Notes

  • Ensure the apples are completely dry for the coating to stick properly.
  • You can customize the glitter used for a unique look.
  • Store the finished candy apples in a cool, dry place to maintain their shine and prevent sticking.
