Description

A delicious and easy-to-make apple galette featuring a flaky puff pastry crust and spiced apple filling.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 sheet of store-bought puff pastry, thawed
  • 4 large apples, peeled, cored, and sliced
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
  • 1 tablespoon butter, cut into small pieces
  • Vanilla bean ice cream (optional, for garnishing)
  • 2 tablespoons caramel (optional, for garnishing)
  • Brown sugar for sprinkling (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 200°C (400°F). Roll out the thawed puff pastry on a lightly floured surface to remove any creases. Transfer it to a large baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl, toss the sliced apples with sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and lemon juice. Arrange the apple slices on the puff pastry, leaving about a 2.5 cm (1-inch) border.
  3. Fold the puff pastry edges up and over the apples to create a border. Brush the beaten egg over the crust. Dot the top of the apples with small pieces of butter and sprinkle the crust and apple tops lightly with additional sugar.
  4. Bake the galette in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes or until the pastry is puffed and golden brown and the apples are tender.
  5. Transfer the baking sheet to a wire rack and let the galette cool for a few minutes. Slide it onto a serving plate using a large spatula or carefully invert the baking sheet over a plate to unmold. Serve warm or at room temperature.

Notes

  • Use a mix of sweet and tart apples for the best flavor.
  • Feel free to customize the spices and add nuts or dried fruits.
  • This dish pairs well with vanilla ice cream or caramel sauce for additional sweetness.
