Description

A delicious and indulgent casserole featuring layers of French bread soaked in a creamy custard, topped with fresh strawberries.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 loaf of French bread (cubed)
  • 4 large eggs
  • 2 cups of milk
  • 1 cup of heavy cream
  • 1/2 cup of granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon of vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon of ground cinnamon
  • 2 cups of fresh strawberries (sliced)
  • Butter (for greasing the casserole dish)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Bread: Start by cubing the French bread into bite-sized pieces and placing them evenly in a greased casserole dish.
  2. Make the Custard: In a large bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, heavy cream, sugar, vanilla extract, and ground cinnamon until well combined.
  3. Combine and Soak: Pour the custard mixture evenly over the bread cubes. Using a spatula, gently press down on the bread to ensure it absorbs the mixture. Top with sliced strawberries.
  4. Refrigerate: Cover the casserole dish with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes, allowing the bread to soak up the custard.
  5. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  6. Bake: Remove the plastic wrap and bake for approximately 45-50 minutes, or until the bread is golden brown and the custard has set.
  7. Serve: Let it cool for a few minutes before serving. Drizzle with maple syrup and a sprinkle of powdered sugar if you like!
