Description

Deliciously soft and festive sugar cookies perfect for the holiday season.


Ingredients

  • 3 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Sift together the all-purpose flour, baking powder, and salt in a medium bowl and set aside.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, beat softened butter and granulated sugar with an electric mixer until smooth and creamy.
  3. Beat in one egg at a time, followed by vanilla extract, ensuring ingredients are fully incorporated.
  4. Add the flour mixture to the creamed mixture and stir until just combined to form the dough.
  5. Wrap the dough in plastic wrap and refrigerate for 2 hours to allow it to firm up.
  6. Preheat the oven to 400°F (205°C). Lightly grease two cookie sheets.
  7. Roll out the dough on a floured surface to 1/4-inch thickness. Cut into shapes with festive cutters, transferring each piece to the prepared cookie sheets. Gather and reroll scraps as needed.
  8. Bake the cookies in batches for 6 to 8 minutes until the edges are golden. Cool briefly on the baking sheet before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
  9. Optionally, sprinkle colored sugar before baking or apply frosting after cooling completely. Serve when ready.
