Description
Deliciously soft and festive sugar cookies perfect for the holiday season.
Ingredients
Scale
- 3 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
- 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 2 large eggs
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
Instructions
- Sift together the all-purpose flour, baking powder, and salt in a medium bowl and set aside.
- In a large mixing bowl, beat softened butter and granulated sugar with an electric mixer until smooth and creamy.
- Beat in one egg at a time, followed by vanilla extract, ensuring ingredients are fully incorporated.
- Add the flour mixture to the creamed mixture and stir until just combined to form the dough.
- Wrap the dough in plastic wrap and refrigerate for 2 hours to allow it to firm up.
- Preheat the oven to 400°F (205°C). Lightly grease two cookie sheets.
- Roll out the dough on a floured surface to 1/4-inch thickness. Cut into shapes with festive cutters, transferring each piece to the prepared cookie sheets. Gather and reroll scraps as needed.
- Bake the cookies in batches for 6 to 8 minutes until the edges are golden. Cool briefly on the baking sheet before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
- Optionally, sprinkle colored sugar before baking or apply frosting after cooling completely. Serve when ready.
Notes
- For more festive cookies, add colored sugar before baking or decorate with icing after cooling.
- Store baked cookies in an airtight container for up to one week.
