Description

A gourmet grilled cheese sandwich featuring smoky salmon and creamy cheeses, perfect for a tasty twist on a classic.


Ingredients

  • 4 oz cream cheese, softened
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella or Swiss cheese
  • 4 oz smoked salmon, thinly sliced
  • 4 slices hearty sandwich bread (sourdough or rye)
  • 2 tbsp fresh dill, finely chopped
  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter, softened
  • 2 tbsp finely sliced red onion (optional)
  • 1 tsp capers, drained (optional)
  • Freshly ground black pepper, to taste

Instructions

  1. In a small bowl, combine softened cream cheese with chopped dill and optional capers or red onion.
  2. Spread one side of each bread slice evenly with softened butter.
  3. On the unbuttered side of two slices, spread the cream cheese mixture evenly.
  4. Layer smoked salmon over the cream cheese, then sprinkle shredded cheese and black pepper evenly on top.
  5. Place the remaining bread slices on top with buttered side facing outward.
  6. Heat a nonstick skillet over medium heat and grill sandwiches for 3 to 4 minutes per side, pressing gently, until bread is golden and cheese melts.
  7. Let sandwiches rest for 1 minute before slicing and serving warm.
