Description

A delicious dessert made with wonton wrappers filled with a creamy strawberry cheesecake mixture and deep-fried until golden brown.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 8 ounces cream cheese, softened
  • 1/4 cup powdered sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 cup strawberry jam or preserves
  • 2 tablespoons fresh strawberries, diced (optional)
  • 20 to 24 wonton wrappers
  • Water for sealing edges
  • Vegetable oil for frying
  • Whipped cream (optional)
  • Strawberry jam or strawberry sauce (optional)
  • Fresh strawberries, sliced (optional)

Instructions

  1. In a medium bowl, combine softened cream cheese, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract. Beat until smooth and creamy. Gently fold in strawberry jam or preserves, and mix in diced strawberries if using.
  2. Place a wonton wrapper on a clean, flat surface. Add about 1 teaspoon of cheesecake filling to the center. Moisten the wrapper’s edges lightly with water, fold the wrapper diagonally to form a triangle or envelope shape, and press to seal tightly, removing air pockets.
  3. Repeat filling and sealing process with remaining wonton wrappers and filling mixture.
  4. Pour vegetable oil into a deep skillet or heavy-bottomed saucepan to a depth of 1 to 2 inches. Heat oil to 350°F.
  5. Carefully fry wontons in batches for 1 to 2 minutes per side until golden brown and crisp. Avoid overcrowding the pan for even cooking.
  6. Remove fried wontons using a slotted spoon and transfer to a paper towel-lined plate to absorb excess oil.
  7. Serve warm with whipped cream, extra strawberry jam or sauce for dipping, and fresh strawberry slices as desired.

Notes

  • For a lighter version, consider baking the wontons instead of frying.
  • Ensure the oil is hot enough before frying to prevent soggy wontons.
  • These wontons can be made in advance and stored in the refrigerator before frying.
