Cranberry Orange Maple Scones are a delightful treat with a perfect balance of sweetness and tartness, enhanced by the rich flavor of maple syrup.

- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/3 cup granulated sugar
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup cold unsalted butter, cubed
- 1/2 cup heavy cream, plus additional for brushing
- 1 large egg
- 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
- 1 tablespoon finely grated orange zest
- 1 cup fresh or frozen cranberries, halved
- 1 cup sifted powdered sugar (for glaze)
- 2 tablespoons pure maple syrup (for glaze)
- 1–2 tablespoons milk or cream (for glaze)
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- In a large mixing bowl, whisk together flour, granulated sugar, baking powder, and salt.
- Add the cold, cubed unsalted butter to the dry ingredients and cut it into the mixture until it resembles coarse crumbs.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together heavy cream, egg, vanilla extract, and orange zest. Pour this wet mixture over the dry ingredients and mix gently until just combined.
- Carefully fold in the halved cranberries into the dough.
- Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface, pat into a circle approximately 1 inch thick, and cut into 8 equal wedges.
- Transfer the scone wedges to the prepared baking sheet and brush the tops with additional heavy cream.
- Bake for 16-18 minutes, or until golden brown and set. Let cool on a wire rack.
- For the glaze, whisk together sifted powdered sugar, pure maple syrup, and enough milk or cream for a pourable consistency. Drizzle over cooled scones.
Notes
- Use fresh cranberries for best flavor, but frozen can work well too.
- Don’t overmix the dough to keep the scones tender.
- Feel free to adjust the sweetness of the glaze to your preference.
