Description

Amish Hamburger Steak Bake is a comforting dish made with seasoned hamburger patties baked in a creamy mushroom sauce, perfect for family meals.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 1/2 pounds ground beef
  • 1/2 cup dry breadcrumbs
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • Salt, to taste
  • Black pepper, to taste
  • 1 can (10 ounces) cream of mushroom soup
  • 1/2 cup whole milk
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 small onion, thinly sliced
  • 1 cup mushrooms, sliced (optional)
  • Fresh parsley, chopped (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F. Lightly grease a 9×13-inch baking dish and set aside.
  2. Combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, egg, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper in a mixing bowl. Mix until just incorporated.
  3. Form the mixture into 4 to 6 oval-shaped patties with uniform thickness.
  4. Sear patties in a large skillet over medium heat for 2–3 minutes per side until browned but not fully cooked. Transfer to the prepared baking dish.
  5. In a bowl, whisk together cream of mushroom soup, milk, and Worcestershire sauce until smooth.
  6. Pour gravy evenly over patties. Top with sliced onions and mushrooms if using.
  7. Cover the dish with foil and bake for 30–35 minutes.
  8. Remove foil and continue baking for an additional 10 minutes, until the sauce is bubbling and hamburger steaks are cooked through.
  9. Sprinkle with fresh parsley if desired and serve hot with mashed potatoes or egg noodles.

Notes

  • For a richer flavor, you may add sautéed garlic or herbs to the gravy mixture.
  • This dish pairs nicely with a side of vegetables.
  • Consider using lean ground beef for a healthier option.
